Sheila Malovany-Chevallier DC’63 and Constance Borde DC’63 have dedicated their careers to feminist scholarship and advocacy—a path that began at Douglass College and led them to their groundbreaking translation of Simone de Beauvoir’s The Second Sex.

Sheila and Constance’s time at Douglass College laid the foundation for their future work in feminist discourse. “At Douglass, we were constantly encouraged to question, to challenge, and to push beyond conventional thinking,” Constance recalls. “It was an environment that nurtured strong women and prepared us for the world beyond.”

This past year, Douglass graduates made up 30% of the Rutgers McNair scholars program. Douglass sat down with Tyshana Campbell DRC’22, a McNair Scholar recipient, to discuss her experience at both Douglass and in the McNair program—a powerful combination that has set her up for success in academia and beyond.

This year’s Douglass College spirit tent was buzzing with red pine pride at the 2022 Homecoming celebration! On October 22, 2022, alumnae, staff, and students came together to celebrate all things Douglass before the Rutgers Homecoming football game. Attendees participated in raffles, current students connected with alumnae, and staff spoke to guests about the power of the Douglass Difference. Our community is at its strongest when we come together to share the uniquely transformative nature of the Douglass journey. The College thanks everyone who stopped by the tent to celebrate!

Douglass alumnae were an integral part of the 2022 Christiana Foglio DC'84 Career Conference. Of the 40+ panelists and speakers at the Conference, over half were members of the College's alumnae community. As graduates of Douglass, alumnae provide a unique perspective to current students. When alumnae share their stories and insight with students, they paint a valuable picture of all that is possible with dedication, ambition, and passion. Hear from some of the 2022 alumnae panelists below on their experience working with students at the Career Conference!

Recent Douglass alumnae are using the talents and skills developed through a Douglass education to make strides both out in the world and back on campus. Jackie Mehr DRC’22 is an active Douglass alumna and current NIH researcher. Throughout her four years as an undergraduate student, she cultivated an impressive research career that culminated in her receiving the Goldwater Scholarship. The insights Mehr has to share are invaluable to the over half of Douglass students pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). Through the power of the Douglass network, current Douglass students have the ability to connect with alumnae like Mehr to gain wisdom from her experiences.

Throughout the summer, Douglass will be celebrating recent graduates and young alumnae who exemplify Douglass excellence as well as the continuous network of alumnae support that flows into the College.

Since graduating in 2013, Qi Guo (Cathy) DRC’13 has spent her professional life pursuing an integral Douglass ideal—equitable and accessible education for all. Guo’s advocacy for education on behalf of women everywhere has led her across the world, from China to the United States to Africa and beyond.

Tasmiah Choudhury DRC’11, a senior clinical scientist for Merck, knows the value of passing down her expertise to current Douglass students to help them achieve their goals. For the past several years, Choudhury has been deeply involved in Douglass programs. From her work as an externship site mentor to her role as a Douglass Career Conference speaker, Choudhury has made a transformative impact in the lives of Douglass students.

The College is thrilled to announce that Barbara Rodkin DC'76, will be inducted into the Rutgers Hall of Distinguished Alumni, one of the University’s highest honors. Rodkin is a philanthropist, education advocate, and visionary for Douglass and Rutgers programs.
