Explore Communities

Douglass Women in Science and Engineering offers 4 impactful first-year living-learning communities that support persistence in STEM: Computer Science, Engineering, Pharmacy/Nursing, and Sciences.

Each LLC encompasses three integral components: Living, Learning, and Community. Together, these elements foster the development of students' STEM identity and provide a holistic network of support, contributing to students’ success in STEM.

 

Sciences LLC

“Grow the Bond” with the Douglass Sciences LLC, established in 1989. Welcoming up to 70 first-year students intending to major in the sciences, the Sciences LLC provides a nurturing environment that fosters a strong sense of belonging and promotes academic excellence among women in science. Located on Douglass Campus. Watch Video!

Computer Science LLC

"Stay in the Loop” with the Douglass Computer Science LLC! Since 2016, up to 40 first-year students per year intending on majoring in computer science, data science, or information technology have the opportunity to participate in this impactful community for women in computing. Located on Busch Campus. Watch Video!

Pharmacy and Nursing LLC

“Get the Prescribed Care” that will help you thrive in the Douglass Pharmacy and Nursing LLC. Since 2023, up to 40 first-year students in the Schools of Pharmacy and Nursing live together in this health focused community which takes place on the Busch Campus. Watch Video!

Engineering LLC

“Get in Gear” with the Reilly Douglass Engineering LLC! Since 2012, up to 50 first-year students in engineering have the opportunity to participate in this robust community for women in engineering. This community is on the Busch Campus. Watch Video.

LLC Requirements

    • Engineering LLC – Morrow Suites, Busch Campus
    • Computer Science LLC – Morrow Suites, Busch Campus
    • Pharmacy/Nursing LLC – Morrow Suites, Busch Campus
    • Sciences LLC - Bunting Cobb Hall, Douglass Campus
    • Engineering LLC – Data-Driven Design for Engineering 14:440:101 (DELLC section)
    • Sciences LLC – Plants for Human Wellness: 11:776:120
    • Computer Science LLC – Great Ideas in Computer Science: 01:198:104
    • Pharmacy/Nursing LLC – Scientific and Technical Writing 01:355:302 (spring semester of the first year, PNCLLC-only sections)
  • As a participant, you are required to engage in the following activities:

    • LLC Programs: Participate in all scheduled LLC programs to enhance your learning experience and community engagement.
    • LLC Peer Mentoring: Engage in peer mentoring sessions to support and be supported by fellow students.
    • Academic Tutoring: Utilize academic tutoring services as needed to strengthen your academic success.
  • Prospective Students, to join a Douglass Living-Learning Community, follow these steps:

    • Rutgers Housing Application + LLC Selection: Log in to the Rutgers Housing Application portal with your student credentials. Choose one of the Douglass Living-Learning Communities that aligns with your admitted school and STEM major.
    • Complete the Supplemental Application: Within the main Housing Application, you will find a link to the Supplemental Application specific to your chosen LLC. Fill out and submit this application to finalize your request.
    • RU Housing Application Completion: If you left the RU Housing App to complete the Supplemental App, be sure to go back and complete the rest of the main RU Housing Application.
