A Global Village House
The transition from High School to College is exciting, exploratory, and full of discovery. And, perhaps to some, a bit daunting. Douglass strives to make this transition for first-year students easier. By joining Douglass at Rutgers, you place yourself into a close-knit college community within the University. You’ll know the names of staff members, friends, and faculty—and they’ll know yours. You’ll have access to social events, student organizations, and programs that connect you to the community. Most of all, you’ll have a roadmap to success at Rutgers and beyond by following the Douglass curriculum, which connects you to opportunities at every step in your college journey.
This required course at Douglass introduces you to foundational concepts in understanding the status of women, literature, and leadership. Participate in critical conversations, chart out a 4 year academic plan, meet with powerful feminist leaders from around the world, and learn to write and present academic research. Discuss systems of power, prepare for the diverse global workforce, and connect to Douglass programs and resources. It counts for R1 of the Douglass curriculum.
A Living-Learning Community (LLC) is a group of students who share similar academic interests, exploring them together in common courses and out-of-classroom activities at no extra cost. Students in LLCs report making friends quickly. Douglass LLCs are designed to give students a shared experience around their academics and/or residential environment. They connect students to faculty within and beyond the classroom and help to facilitate students’ transition from high school to college. LLCs count for R2 of the curriculum.
