Christine Arsenis DRC’19, has always known she was meant to be an educator. However, while she knew her career path from the moment she first stepped on the Douglass campus, what she didn’t know was how her time at Douglass would play a transformative role in who she would become.

“I think what I loved the most about being at Douglass is the amount of growth I have experienced over the past four years. It has been a tremendous process. I can tell you for sure that looking back at what I thought my college life would be like as a senior in high school, compared to right now, is a complete 180.”

Arsenis attributes her individual growth to her involvement in extracurricular activities— she was involved in at least 12.

“I really threw myself into extracurriculars just to make sure I kept myself busy and more immersed with Douglass, as well as my fellow peers. It helped to shape me into a stronger version of myself.”

As a recent graduate, she urges Douglass women following in her footsteps to take the time— like she did—to find themselves.

“This is a great time to rediscover who you are and really become at peace with who you want to be in your young adult years. No matter what you decide to major in, and however long it takes you to decide on what path is right for you, take the extra time to make sure you are doing okay and that you are happy in the position you are currently in. You are the only person who can be in total control of your fate!”

In the next few years, Arsenis plans to pursue her Master of Education and fulfill her lifelong dream of becoming a teacher. To pass down her love of STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) to younger generations, she also envisions herself starting an after-school program for young girls interested in STEM disciplines.

“This has been my dream for nearly two decades, so I am very excited to see it all come to fruition!”

While Arsenis’s time as a DRC student has come to a close, she is taking the valuable academic, professional, and social competencies she learned at Douglass out into the world. Like many others in the DRC Class of 2019, she now joins a diverse and accomplished network of Douglass professionals, scholars, leaders, and innovators.
