On March 1st, the Douglass Student Center buzzed with excitement as Douglass Residential College hosted its 5th annual Women's Day event in honor of International Women's Day. The event was a celebration of women's resilience and achievements worldwide, and it brought together a diverse array of students, faculty, and staff.
"The International Women's Day celebration at Douglass empowers and inspires students by showcasing the achievements and contributions of women from diverse backgrounds across the globe," says Dr. Madinah Elamin, Senior Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at Douglass Residential College.
Attendees were treated to free food and drinks, fun activities, amazing student performances, and a student organization fair. "Every voice matters, and by celebrating women's achievements, we promote a more inclusive and equitable society for all," adds Elamin.
One of the highlights of the event was the cultural fashion show, where students proudly showcased traditional attire representing their diverse cultural backgrounds. "By highlighting stories of resilience and success, our focus is to foster a culture of inclusive passion within the Douglass community and Rutgers as a whole," says Elamin.
Approximately 200 students attended the event, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to unite in solidarity and celebration. For the Douglass community, Women's Day serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of unity, diversity, and resilience in the fight for gender equality. By bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures, the event underscored the collective strength and determination of women everywhere.
