An externship is an immersive workplace experience lasting one-two weeks in which students are mentored by a professional in their area of interest. Participating in this job shadowing experience allows students to work on projects, learn about the status of women in the workplace, and get an inside glimpse into the day-to-day work life of a particular career.

If you are interested in graduate school, but are not sure where to start, apply to the grad school mentoring program. Douglass students will be mentored in small groups by a Rutgers graduate student on a number of topics such as: How to apply to grad programs; Learning across differences; Securing funding and identifying supportive faculty; Graduate education as it relates to issues of race, gender, disability and socioeconomic status.
