Explore Arts Offerings 

The Center for Women in the Arts at Douglass engages students in dynamic, hands-on artistic experiences that highlight the work and perspectives of women, trans, and nonbinary artists. Through exhibitions, year-long campus residencies, and creative workshops, students explore diverse artistic practices and connect with leading voices in the arts.

Gender and Arts Living-Learning Community 

The Gender & Arts Living-Learning Community is designed to bring arts education to students in a range of fields who have varied experience, training, and skill levels. During a year-long experience, students will learn about representations of gender in art, and develop their artistic voice through hands-on practice, thoughtful discussions, guest artist visits, and an opportunity to showcase their artwork in an exhibition.

Mary H. Dana Women Artist Series at the Douglass Library 

The Mary H. Dana Women Artists Series Galleries offers enriching experiences for Rutgers art enthusiasts and the public throughout the year. It is the oldest continuously running exhibition space in the United States dedicated to making visible the work of emerging and established contemporary women artists.

Estelle Lebowitz and Ann Beneduce-Lebowitz Artist-in-Residence  

The Estelle Lebowitz and Ann Beneduce-Lebowitz program brings a distinguished woman or gender diverse artist to campus for a year to present a solo exhibition of their artwork, give artist’s talks, and collaborate with Douglass students on hands-on creative projects and workshops

Willets Open Arts Studio

The Willets Open Art Studio is a space stocked with free art supplies that allows Douglass students to explore their creativity for self-driven or group projects.

Douglass Arts Club

The Douglass Arts Club offers student-led activities and events focusing in the areas of Visual Arts, Dance, Music, Theater/Film, and Literary Arts.

These programs are supported by the Juliette Mittendorf Hill Fine Arts Endowment, the Estelle Lebowitz & Ann Beneduce-Lebowitz Memorial Fund, and the Mary H. Dana Fund. Signature initiatives, including the Mary H. Dana Women Artists Series and the Lebowitz Artist-in-Residence program, are presented in partnership with Rutgers University Libraries and the Department of Art & Design at the Mason Gross School of the Arts.

Arts Mentoring and Internships

Looking for someone to connect with about arts projects or internships?

Students can pitch exhibition and arts project ideas or internship opportunities for mentoring support or funding requests. This opportunity is open to all Douglass students but other Rutgers students with a feminist focus in their education can request affiliation as well.

  • Apply to the Gender & Arts Living-Learning Community for a year-long experience.
