At Douglass, students have space to confidently express their own identities while learning more about the perspectives and experiences of others. The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion pillar of the Douglass curriculum offers students a range of programming that develops students into well-rounded leaders. Students learn to become advocates, engage in cross-cultural communication, and celebrate diverse backgrounds.

October marked both Hispanic Heritage and Latine Heritage Month and LGBTQIA+ History Month. Two nights of culture, history, and community brought students together in conversation and celebration. Students attended a special Hispanic Heritage and Latine Month Movie Night complete with dinner and movie snacks. They screened, In the Time of the Butterflies, which tells the powerful story of the Mirabal sisters and their courageous fight for freedom in the Dominican Republic.

Students also came together in the community at a queer bingo night. Before the games began, RU Voting, a Rutgers voter information organization, spoke to students about the importance of exercising their right to vote this November. Garden State Equality, a New Jersey LGBTQIA+ advocacy organization, also spoke to students about getting involved in activism. See more about the event in the recap here!
