Spotlight on Douglass Staff – Edie Prescod, Sr. Department Administrator

Edie Prescod

This month, Douglass Spotlights Senior Department Administrator Edie Prescod, who has worked at Rutgers University for 25 years in a variety of units. She served in the Office of the Dean for Livingston College and was part of Rutgers Integrated Administrative System (RIAS), the university's first university-wide web-based system designed to streamline business processes.

Immediately before joining Douglass, Edie worked for the Cancer Institute of New Jersey (CINJ), where she contributed to several scientific research projects. In one particular project, Edie was responsible for recruiting participants for a breast cancer study that focused on the disparities between African American women and other women. The study was created to understand why breast cancer in African American women occurred at a younger age, spread faster and was harder to treat.

Why did you decide to join Douglass?

I decided to join Douglass because of the opportunity to create an array of high-level events celebrating an important milestone in the college's history, the Douglass Centennial! Today, I am working in an environment where I can hone in on my skills as well as contribute to the success of the college. In my current role, I support the Dean of Douglass while also managing various Office of the Dean events. I am so proud to be a part of the only women’s college in the nation that is housed within a public research university.

You were responsible for planning the Douglass Centennial events. What was your favorite event?

The Centennial Kickoff Celebration was my favorite. In partnership with others, I creatively designed an event, which brought the Rutgers community together in an educational yet festive environment. During the Kickoff, we were able to reflect on the history, celebrate the present and look forward to the future of Douglass.

What makes Douglass a special place?

Douglass is a special community of diverse people who all share a strong desire and a common goal to see women grow, learn, and succeed. Douglass fosters an environment that challenges women to discover their talents and skills, meanwhile building a sense of community, which will last well beyond their time at Douglass.
