Lead Well - Leadership Development

The BOLD Center develops students’ leadership skills and ability to thrive in the diverse and global world in which they live. Through leadership in action, Douglass students will have the opportunity: 1) to become a BOLD Leaders through participation in a Douglass student group and participation in the BOLD pathway, to be a leader in a , 2) to engage in the community, 3) become a Global Leader through curricular and co-curricular global learning experiences, and 4) participate in paid internships in Trenton and attend special conferences in D.C through PLEN.

Through Douglass workshops and retreats, students will have opportunities: 1) to hear from experts in the field, 2) engage in weekly morning career, leadership, and wellness activities, and 3) participate in overnight leadership retreats.

There are many opportunities for students to hone their leadership skills while at Douglass. Whether it's developing public speaking skills by serving as a Red Pine Ambassador, learning parliamentary procedure as a member of the Douglass Governing Council, making global connections through the Douglass International and Multicultural Association, or gaining leadership skills as a Barbara Voorhees Mentor for the Knowledge and Power course. The Public Leadership Education Network (PLEN) is a program that offers leadership, career, and mentoring opportunities for college women nationwide. Because Douglass Residential College is a member institution, the "Douglass in DC" program gives Douglass students the opportunity to participate in and apply for funding for seminars in Washington, D.C.! Additionally, the Douglass PLEN program offers a Spring Forum lecture series and a 7 week summer internship in Trenton, N.J. Read more »
Douglass Residential College students have the opportunity to further their education by performing community service through a variety of programs. Participating in the community in this way enhances a student’s sense of civic responsibility and community. Read more »
The Douglass Global Leader program structures student engagement with global issues throughout their undergraduate years at Rutgers University and brings together international learning as components of a cohesive program that progressively builds on learning goals achieved. The curriculum for the Global Leaders Program will extend from Knowledge and Power: Issues in Women’s Leadership (the Douglass required first-year course), through participation in The Douglass Global Village and options for co-curricular opportunities for global learning at Douglass and Rutgers.
