Douglass Students Hear Stories of Refugees and Learn to Help at Global Summit

More than 20 years ago, Jasmina Dervisevic-Cesic feared for her life.

It was during the Bosnian genocide in the early 1990s when several family members were killed and she struggled to find her way out of the country she called home her entire life.

Dervisevic-Cesic eventually found her way to the United States in 1993 and arrived in Boston — the first Bosnian refugee granted permission to seek medical care here. On Saturday in New Brunswick, she shared her story at Rutgers University's Douglass Residential College's Global Summit.
