Scholarships & Awards

The Douglass Residential College community believes in recognizing and encouraging the outstanding achievements of women students. To this end, the College, in collaboration with the Associate Alumnae of Douglass College, offers a variety of scholarships to new and current members of Douglass.

New First-Year and Transfer Students

Douglass Residential College recognizes the merit of incoming students who have enrolled at an undergraduate school at Rutgers-New Brunswick and plan to become members of Douglass Residential College. Scholarships are competitive and awards range from $1000 to $5000.

All newly admitted first-year and transfer students are welcome to apply. Non-traditional students who graduated from high school 5 or more years ago are also encouraged to apply for special scholarships for adult learners.

Women’s Club of Spring Lake Scholarship – High school seniors who reside in Monmouth County, NJ and plan to enroll in Douglass Residential College are encouraged to apply for this scholarship opportunity. Click here to download the scholarship application. The deadline to apply is April 1, 2012. This is not a Douglass Residential College scholarship, and Rutgers University does not administer this scholarship.

Current Members of Douglass Residential College

Current Douglass students continue to be recognized for their accomplishments through a set of special scholarships and awards.General merit or need-based scholarships are awarded each year to deserving Douglass members. Please complete and submit a Current Student Scholarship Application Form by the noted deadline to be considered.

Study abroad scholarships are also available for students wishing to pursue studies internationally. Notifications are made in the spring of the academic year before the intended year of international study. Please complete a Study Abroad Scholarship Application by the noted deadline to be considered.

Rodkin International Scholars Fund-Available to Douglass Students participating in the Rutgers Study Abroad International Service Learning Program
Scholarships will range from $500-$6000 and are awarded to current Douglass sophomores and juniors in the School of Arts and Sciences who participate in a summer Rutgers International Service Learning Program. A variety of student prizes and fellowship awards for graduate study are also available through the generosity of the alumnae of Douglass College and other generous donors. These awards are exclusively offered to members of the Douglass community. Such gifts demonstrate strong ongoing support for the College's unique programs, and its reputation for building successful women leaders.

In addition, The Charles and Shirley Weiss Prize for the Best Essay on an Urban Topic is awarded each year to a member of Douglass Residential College. Current members who would like to submit a paper or essay on an urban topic for consideration may compete for this cash award. The paper may have been used for a class, but should be reprinted without the instructor's comments for submission. Electronic submissions are due to Lauren Zileinski, Scholarships & Housing Coordinator by Monday, March 26, 2012.
