Rutgers Douglass Residential College

Residential & Commuter Life

Members of the close-knit Douglass Residential College community have plenty of choices when it comes to residential living on the Douglass Campus at Rutgers University. Our residence halls and Living-Learning Communities are vibrant and supportive, and offer you opportunities to actively connect and participate in the College experience with your fellow Douglass women.

All new incoming freshman and transfer students who have elected membership in Douglass Residential College and who plan to live in Rutgers housing are expected to reside in our residences on the Douglass Campus for their first year. Current students who are Douglass members continue to receive priority choice of our Douglass Residential College halls throughout your sophomore, junior and senior years, but may choose to live on another campus for convenience. Members who decide to move to another Rutgers campus after their year-in-residence will retain membership and continue to have access to all the other opportunities offered through Douglass Residential College.

Douglass Residential College offers a diverse mix of female-only traditional and apartment-style residence halls as well as Living Learning Communities (download the brochure PDF). Living Learning Communities are clusters of students who live together and share an interest in a special topic. Living spaces that are affiliated with Douglass Residential College are exceptional because they provide supportive programming found nowhere else at Rutgers. Highly-trained students with expertise in academic and advising resources called Peer Academic Leaders live in every hall and serve as a major resource for all of your academic needs.

Commuting or off-campus students may join Douglass Residential College and will receive all the same advantages and opportunities as on-campus members. Commuters will have access to a specially appointed Commuter Peer Academic Leader, a commuter herself who can advise you on your academic questions as well as concerns like parking, driving routes, and where to eat, study and lounge between classes. Your Commuter PAL works hard to arrange social gatherings and other programs that will ensure your active involvement in our community and work with commuters' schedules.
